What to Include in a Teaching Resume

Sample Resumes

For the most part, a teaching resume is the same as any other resume. It will need to be clear, concise and professional in appearance. There are, however, some special items to include:

Objective
Clearly state what type of position you are looking for (grade level and content area). You also may include the type of school or extra-curricular interests.

Certification
Be sure to include what state, what levels and what content area in which you are or will be certified. If you are not certified yet, include date that you will qualify for certification.

Student Teaching Experiences
Write up your student teaching experiences just as if they were an actual job. You may want to include the grade level and number of students/classes taught, subject matter covered and special events in which you participated (i.e. parent conferences or in-services).

Practicums
You may include your practicums as part of your educational experience. Describe where you did the practicum, what age group you worked with and what you did during that time.

Related Experiences
This may include anything related to the educational field, paid or volunteer. Tutoring, day-care worker or camp counselor all can be related to the teaching profession.

Activities and Interests
This may include your involvement in college activities, but also your interests. This category can include any activity that you may be interested in advising or coaching as an extra-curricular.

References
Almost all schools will request written credentials at some time during the application process. You also may want to include names and phone numbers of references on your application.
