The Education Job Search
The job search in the educational field is competitive,
but it is not impossible. Like any job search, it is an investment of
time and money. But the payoff can be great if the effort is put forth.
On the following pages, you will find several guidelines and tips which
can help you in your search. This is by no means a complete or authoritative
resource. Feel free to consult other resources listed below, or consult
with other teachers and administrators for their perspective.
What you'll need for a successful job search:
Almost all schools require that you submit the following:
- Cover letters or letter of application individualized for each
position
- Resume
- Credentials
- Transcripts of your academic record (obtained through the registrar's
office)
- Application (sent to you by school district)
Some schools may also request:
- Portfolio of your work and that of your students (evaluations,
sample lesson plans, pictures of bulletin boards, anonymous work
of the students, etc.)
- Videotape of you teaching a lesson
