Why a liberal arts college and not an art academy?

That is a decision you may need to make. If you are mostly interested in the technical aspects of art, then consider a specialized institution. However, if you are more interested in formulating and understanding the ideas behind the art, then the intellectual experience of a liberal arts college like Ripon College is for you.

Obviously, not every art major from Ripon College becomes a famous artist, although our department has, in fact, graduated people who are successful fine artists and art historians, but there are also lots of other alternatives to consider.

Graduates have gone into medical illustration, art therapy, teaching, advertising, design, political cartooning, arts management, museum administration, photojournalism, art law and product development. Art careers often take unconventional and unpredictable paths, but the intellectual and spiritual satisfaction they offer easily outweighs their uncertainties.
