Music has not always been a very important tool in the mumming
ceremonies. When used, the noise would
have been to draw attention and announce the arrival of a troupe. Major band usage was not incorporated
until 1902 during the Philadelphia Parade when the parade director invited a
local band to march. This later
progressed into more, and music has become a major part of the Philadelphia
Mummer’s Parade. |
