RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks have been considered part of "the big three" of Midwest Conference football teams for some time now, finishing tied for second with Monmouth in each of the past two seasons. That won't change this season, as Ripon was picked to finish third in the 2008 MWC Football Preseason Coaches Poll, as released by the conference office on Tuesday.
Ripon didn't receive any first place votes, but also didn't receive any votes lower than third. Two-time defending champion St. Norbert was once again picked to finish first, thanks to seven first-place votes. Monmouth came in second, with three-first place votes. After the Red Hawks, Lake Forest was voted fourth, while Carroll was picked to finish fifth. The poll was rounded out with Illinois College, Lawrence, Beloit, Knox, and Grinnell, in that order.
