RIPON, Wis. – The Ripon College baseball team experienced a successful season in 2008, which saw them accumulate the fourth-most wins (27) in school history. Tuesday, several players were rewarded for their hard work throughout the season, with an MWC All-Conference nod. Selected to the first team were third baseman Nick Beaman, designated hitter Alex Duros, outfielder Nate Paul, first baseman Mac Shumann, and pitcher Mike Lloyd. The second-team selections included outfielder Bryant Bullock, catcher Nick Whitty, and pitcher Jason Wierschke.
Beaman finished his first season with the Red Hawks batting .385, with nine doubles, 36 RBI and team-highs of four triples, seven home runs, 42 runs scored, and a .677 slugging percentage. Duros also batted .385, while leading the team in doubles (11) and RBI (41). Paul and Shumann also had great seasons at the plate, batting .351 and .331, respectively. Paul also added five doubles and 24 RBI, while Shumann recorded nine doubles, four triples, four home runs, and 34 RBI. Lloyd was Ripon's lone pitcher on the team. The junior led the squad in wins, going 7-3 on the mound with a 3.23 ERA and 35 strikeouts.
The second team was highlighted by a pair of sophomores and a freshman. Bullock and Whitty continued to improve on last season, posting batting averages of .262 and .308, respectively. Bullock also connected on nine doubles and drove in 18 runs, while scoring 26 more. He also excelled in the field, where he did not commit an error in 82 chances. In addition to Whitty's .308 average, the sophomore also had four doubles and 10 RBI, while crossing the plate 17 times. Freshman pitcher Jason Wierschke was also named to the second team, thanks to his 4-0 record, 31 strikeouts, and 3.83 ERA.
