RIPON, Wis. – Ripon College pitcher Jordan Baitinger did all he could to try to get the Red Hawks to the Division III College World Series, throwing a complete game no-hitter in his final collegiate performance. In the end, Ripon fell a couple games short of the World Series, but Baitinger’s feat will still manage to land him there. The senior has been invited to attend Thursday’s D-III College World Series banquet at the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, Wis. at 7:30 p.m., where he will be honored for his historical accomplishment.
Baitinger’s no-hitter is just the second no-no in the history of the Division III tournament, and first since Rowan’s Norm Charlesworth achieved the feat in 1980. Baitinger struck out five batters, en route to the 4-1 victory over St. Olaf (MN), while recording 19 ground ball outs. The Fremont, Wis. native finished the season with a 7-1 record and a 1.84 ERA.
