Traditional Business Administration Study or an Individualized
Approach
Students looking for a traditional Business Administration Program
will want to consider the General Business Administration track.
This 40-credit major is interdisciplinary and includes coursework
in mathematics, accounting, management, finance and economics.
Electives in entrepreneurship, computer science, communication,
non-profit management and other disciplines also are available.
This program will provide all of the necessary coursework for the
most popular MBA programs.
Other students may wish to pursue the Individualized Business
Administration track. This option includes less prescriptive coursework
in the above disciplines. During the first two years ,the groundwork
for the major is laid, with introductory courses in accounting,
economics, computer science and others chosen by the student. During
the next two years, intermediate and advanced courses in business
management and economics are blended with the self-designed component.
This component of the major can focus on any topic; examples include
international marketing, sports management, business forecasting,
art museum management, mergers and acquisitions, and environmental
administration, but this list of examples is merely suggestive.
Minors in business administration also are available. Minor "tracks"
include economics, entrepreneurship and non-profit management.
Ripon College business administration graduates are knowledgeable
and adaptable. They have learned how to recognize and analyze problems
and how to communicate effectively about possible solutions. Instead
of being trained in one narrower aspect of business (personnel,
accounting, sales, production, transportation, etc.), our graduates
are ready to develop the expertise that can be gained only through
experience. Thus, they are top candidates for managerial positions
after they "learn
the ropes" in a particular company or organization.
