From the Director...

Today's business person needs a liberal education.  In order to cope with the speed of change, including rapid globalization, tomorrow's business leaders must first be able to think critically, and to solve business problems in creative new ways.  Competition is increasingly international; companies diversify their products and services; technology changes rapidly and then spreads quickly as the computer-based "information age" emerges; and environmental protection requires special knowledge and caution in production.  Accordingly, managers must know and anticipate changes in social conditions and markets, they must be able to communicate clearly and persuasively, and develop a set of values to guide their decisions.  Ripon's business administration majors rate highly on such criteria as these.  Furthermore, they have a solid grounding in economics, accounting and finance; they are familiar with computers and business-oriented software; and they get extensive experience in working in small groups on projects, both inside and outside of the classroom.  Our track record with employers and graduate schools is outstanding.

The business administration program is very rigorous, but also is as flexible and responsive as graduating seniors need to be.  Students have an opportunity to select a "general" business major, or to self-design a major in a specific sub-discipline, such as accounting or marketing.  They can also combine interests in other curricular areas to form a major.  Examples include Arts Management, Sports Marketing, and International Business.  Faculty work closely to ensure that majors are both challenging and relevant.

"Hands-on" experiences are also highly encouraged, including up to 21 credits of internship, either in Ripon or elsewhere, and membership in Students in Free Enterprise, a global intercollegiate business organization.

The problems that Ripon students will need to address in 20 years, at the peak of their careers, probably do not even exist today.  The business administration program will ensure that Ripon graduates have the skills needed for a lifetime of learning and leadership.
