Marcus Pacuvius

Marcus Pacuvius was born in 220 BC at Brundisium. He was the first Latin author to specialize in Tragedy, and he was as artist. Although some say that some of his plays were satires, the ciritics of the time, refer to him as a Tragedian. Of his play we have 12 titles and fragments, and lines amounting to 400. He specialized in complicated plots, and took his influences from the Greek plays. He produced his plays few and far between, so it is believed that he had another source of income, either from inherited wealth, or from his paintings. His last play was produced when he was 80 years old. From that time on he fell out of the theatrical circle, except for the advice he would offer to the young playwright Lucius Accius. He died at an advanced age in 130 BC.
